Every year our faculty is visited by thousands of people searching for the newest information in life sciences field. The two most popular educational events are the Festival of Science and the Night of Biologists. Among visitors there are mostly pupils and teachers, but also preschool children, journalists, and other enthusiasts of biology. During these outreach actions our teams (i.e. Department of Cytology, Department of Embryology, and Department of Immunology) present lectures and workshops focused on stem cells and their role in embryo development, tissue homeostasis, as well as regenerative medicine. However, this is not enough. There are always much more candidates than seats available, so – unfortunately – we never accept all who are interested.
When we heard about UniStem Day we decided to jump on board to have another opportunity to meet the people and talk about modern biotechnology with special emphasis on stem cells issues. Now our debut in UniStem Day is approaching and we are very excited about it! We managed to organize the meeting for 200 participants.
It would not be possible without support of the authorities of the University of Warsaw, Faculty of Biology, Biological and Chemical Research Centre, and the Office of the Marshal of Mazowieckie Voivodeship, as well as other sponsors. Students attending UniStem Day at University of Warsaw will participate in lectures, workshops, video shows, and discussion about “Freedom of Studying” with the participation of stem cells researchers, clinicians, and science journalists. Our goal is to disseminate the knowledge about stem cells research and regenerative medicine in Poland and abroad, with special emphasis on the newest achievements in the field. We also organize the workshop dedicated to teachers who would like to extend their knowledge about modern biology and get familiar with educational tools developed to facilitate teaching in an interesting way.
Our University is the first in Poland joining UniStem Day initiative but we hope that in the future the network will be formed. Let’s get ready to UniStem Day in Poland!
