Modeling the Human Brain in a Dish: iPSC-Derived Platforms to Study Neurodegeneration

In this lecture, I will trace my work on the development of human iPSC-derived brain models, from establishing differentiation protocols and creating patient-specific cell lines to developing automated population-scale platforms. I will highlight the state of the art of these models, their current limitations, and how they are enabling investigations into the mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases, neuron–glia interactions, genetic risk, and, ultimately, the development of new therapeutic strategies.
