New findings in Parkinson’s disease

Parkinson is a very common neurodegenerative disease, that has not yet a treatment. A new research has tried to find how a great level of iron in the brain is associated with the disease.

As described in an article published on The Parkinson03Journal of Neuroscience, the cause could be the malfunction, especially during old age, of the lysosomes, organelles that recycle damaged proteins. If lysosomes don’t work correctly, the high level of iron in the brain produce oxidative stress.

Understanding of this mechanism could help the development of new terapies against Parkinson (source and detail on GalileoNet.it).
